The St. Mary’s County Commissioners and Naval Air Station Patuxent River held a joint encroachment mitigation and prevention meeting on October 6, 2026. The county’s Department of Public Works reported that a Defense Community Infrastructure Program (DCIP) grant application had been submitted for a two-part project: sidewalks from Glen Forest toward Gate 2 and an extension of Tulagi Place to Willows Road to provide emergency access and improve traffic flow. The Board had approved the project for the county’s FY2027 Capital Improvement Program at its prior meeting. No contract award, project cost, or procurement vote was reported at this meeting; staff said the environmental review process was beginning, with construction to follow.

Other agenda items included an update on the Comprehensive Plan, including a withdrawn land-use application and an upcoming public hearing; presentation of the Southern Maryland Regional Workforce Study completed by Towson University; and updates on NAS Patuxent River’s airfield compatibility study and VX-1’s operational test mission. County and Navy representatives discussed incorporating compatibility information into county zoning and planning materials, while emphasizing that the Navy study is advisory. No additional purchasing or contracting decisions were identified.
