The Town of Clayton Town Council meeting on October 5, 2026, approved Budget Amendment Ordinance 2026-9-04 to fund the upfront purchase of a fire ladder truck. Staff recommended using $675,000 in program initiative funds and appropriating $1.425 million from fund balance, citing an estimated savings of about $302,000 compared with paying $2.4 million upon delivery in four years; staff also noted the town could consider reimbursing the funds later. The motion passed. Staff additionally announced that a paving project covering 75 streets and more than seven miles was scheduled to begin the next day, but no contract award or project cost was discussed.

The council also heard an update on Permit Clayton, an online permitting and application portal, and the Downtown Development Authority’s annual report, which included facade grants and downtown business activities. In public comment, a resident urged the council to cancel its Flock camera contract and remove the cameras; the council took no action. Fire officials reported that an engine was nearly a total loss in a preventable September accident and said they would review response practices, training, policies, and apparatus safety features, including specifying additional safety technology on future trucks.
