The City of Minot and Ward County held a joint multi-agency meeting on October 5, 2026. The main procurement and facilities item was a proposed five-year lease for municipal court space in the Ward County Courthouse, at $6,000 annually ($500 monthly). Estimated city-funded improvements were about $24,000 for electrical, data, wiring and IT; $15,000 for a public service window; and $15,000 for furniture and equipment. Staff said the jurisdictions might perform some renovation work internally. The City Council approved the lease form in principle, 6–1, authorizing staff to continue working toward an agreement; any material revisions would return to the council. Ward County did not give final approval at this meeting and planned further consideration, with additional discussions through its building committee and a possible commission agenda item on October 20.

District court judges and staff raised concerns about sharing Courtroom 100, citing courtroom capacity, hardwired state court equipment, security, scheduling, and the potential loss of courtroom availability; a judge reported that the state court administrator had viewed courtroom co-location as infeasible. The meeting also discussed revising the city’s extraterritorial zoning boundaries, including areas around sewage lagoons and agricultural land, but no final action was taken. In miscellaneous discussion, a previously approved city–sheriff’s department screening contract was raised for future reconsideration, with a suggestion to allow nurse practitioners as providers; no action was taken on that contract at this meeting.
