The Barnstable Open Space Committee meeting on October 5, 2026, approved the September 14 minutes unanimously and approved a motion to send a comment letter on the Cape Cod Commission’s regional open space plan. The letter will support restoring the Cape Cod Pathways program and connecting trails both between towns and within Barnstable’s villages, while emphasizing open space’s benefits for residents’ well-being and mental health. Members also discussed promotion of the upcoming Fall Walking Weekend, including a brochure, website and social-media posting, and distribution of printed flyers; no related spending or procurement was reported.
Barnstable Land Trust reported progress on two conservation projects: an 18-acre property near Meeting House Way, held by a conservation-buyer partner while fundraising begins, and a separate one-acre property expected to go before the Community Preservation Committee. A conservation restriction for the larger project is expected to come before the Open Space Committee at its next meeting. Members also received an update on the Cape Cod Rail Trail connection, including planned bridge installation and limits on public access during construction. No contract awards, purchasing decisions, budget allocations, or other procurement activity were identified.
