The City of Lakewood Arts Commission meeting was held October 5, 2026. The commission approved its August 3 minutes and, by voice vote, approved the design for an Eagle Scout mural at Harry Todd Park; the project had already received Parks Board approval and is expected to go to City Council. The mural is planned for a 5-by-15-foot concrete wall, with fundraising to begin after the required approvals. The proposed concrete wall design by another artist was postponed to a future meeting. No contract award or purchase approval was made.
The commission discussed a possible roundabout sculpture, including preliminary cost estimates of about $125,000–$150,000 and potential community fundraising through Partners for Parks; members supported exploring a fundraising subcommittee. The City’s 2027–28 art fund budget was reported as $18,600. Utility-box wraps were also discussed: the combined artist and wrapping cost is about $4,500 per box, and Print Northwest has authorization to complete the current installations, with one box delayed pending replacement by Public Works. For the November retreat, members favored obtaining a per-person food quote from the Asia Pacific Cultural Center and paying individually; no city-funded meal or contracted art activity was approved. The commission also plans to review a draft collections policy that could guide future art acquisitions.
