The City of Boise Public Works Commission met on October 8, 2026. The main agenda item was a staff update on Keep Boise Cool, the city’s community climate-action program, including waste-reduction, water-conservation, e-bike, and home-energy challenges. Staff reported a recurring $25,000 annual community-engagement budget and a one-time $50,000 allocation from the mayor’s office to launch the program. A $9,000 Urban Sustainability Directors Network grant supported the e-bike rebate challenge, and staff had applied for a $250,000 U.S. Conference of Mayors grant to fund incentives. Staff said they seek local vendors where possible, including for program materials and through a local bike-shop collaboration; no contract awards or procurement approvals were presented or voted on. Commissioners requested further budget and outcome information and offered ideas to improve outreach and the program’s climate-action guide.
The Commission also received legal training on appeal procedures, due process, and recordkeeping. Staff proposed next year’s discussion topics, including Water Renewal Services capital planning, workforce development, the solid-waste strategic plan and franchise-agreement negotiations, and climate resilience. These were proposed topics rather than procurement actions. The Commission approved its prior meeting minutes and later adjourned; no spending-related motions or procurement decisions were recorded.
