The Hammond Capital Improvement Board meeting on October 5, 2026, approved several funding allocations. These included $18,300 to VS Engineering for a 173rd Street pedestrian-crossing study; approximately $18,400 to Slusher’s Green Thumb for median trees on Home Avenue; and a change order of about $85,733 with Burgling Construction for repairs to the Civic Center’s east stairs and ramp. Board members said the Home Avenue median work would be locally funded because federal funding could not cover that segment, and the Civic Center work was not eligible for HUD funding. The Civic Center repairs were also discussed as improving accessibility for people with disabilities.
The board also approved $33,500 for construction engineering on the Marquette Greenway Trail segment from Kennedy Avenue to Klein Avenue; the construction contract had been awarded to Grimmer Construction and came in about $1 million under budget. A further $94,000 allocation to Grimmer Construction was approved for the Lyman Storm Sewer Project, intended to divert stormwater from the combined sewer system. The transcript indicates the allocations passed, though portions of the roll-call records are garbled. No work-study session or funding representative report was held, and no other procurement matters were identified.
