The City of Burnsville Parks and Natural Resources Commission met on October 5, 2026. After approving the agenda and the September 21 minutes, commissioners heard informational presentations from Dakota Electric and Great River Energy on electricity reliability, conservation, demand management, renewable energy, and long-term power planning. The presenters discussed utility investments and future wind and battery-storage resources, but the meeting did not consider or approve a city energy contract, purchase, or budget allocation. Commissioners also discussed how large new electricity users, such as data centers, could affect demand and rates; utility representatives said costs should be assigned to the customers who create them rather than shifted to other ratepayers.

The city’s recreation supervisor presented findings from a parks wayfinding study covering all 76 parks. Recommendations include installing nearly 150 signs and removing 44 outdated or ineffective signs; staff will develop cost estimates and a funding plan and pursue phased implementation, prioritizing more-used parks. No sign purchase or funding was approved. A commissioner proposed considering future exterior-lighting standards of 3,000 Kelvin or lower and promoting birding as input to the city’s 2050 comprehensive-plan process; these were discussion points, not adopted policy. The commission took no procurement-related votes or spending actions. Other business included a community garden fundraising link seeking about $600 for tools.
