At the October 15, 2026, Fort Zumwalt School District Board of Education meeting, the board approved the 2027 HVAC upgrades authorization. The project will replace or upgrade aging equipment at seven facilities, with work at two elementary schools including removal of classroom unit ventilators. IFS was the low bidder on bid packages 1 and 2, including both alternates, at $4,198,296โ€”more than $1 million below the anticipated budget. The work is to be funded from the April 2022 bond issue, begin after the last day of school, and be completed by early August 2027. The district stated that the contracts require at least a one-year contractor warranty. A member of the public had raised questions about accountability and warranty documentation for prior bond-funded work; the presentation confirmed warranty provisions for the HVAC contracts. The board also received a safety and security plan update, which described current measures and possible future improvements, including vestibules, cameras, and visitor-management systems; no action was taken on that update.

The district presented a five-year financial outlook, citing rising special-education costs and a projected state-funding reduction of about $6 million annually, with borrowing potentially needed by 2030 if trends continue. The superintendent proposed forming an administrative committee, including staff and community members, to review revenues and expenditures. The board discussed Proposition 1, a proposed $90 million bond issue for security and facility updates that would not increase the tax levy; voters will decide it on November 3, 2026. This was presented as a future funding opportunity, not a procurement approval at this meeting. The board also approved the financial reports as presented.
