The City of Blue Springs City Council met on October 5, 2026. The council approved Ordinance 5,528, amending the Unified Development Code to define and regulate outdoor displays, sales and rentals, accessory and principal outdoor storage, commercial vehicle and equipment parking, and salvage activities. The amendment allows accessory outdoor storage in general business districts through a conditional use permit and establishes standards including location, screening, fencing, setbacks, and landscaping. It passed on second reading, with one council member voting no. The council also approved final plats for Cordele Mason Elementary and The Woodlands at Chapman Farms 3A; no related spending or procurement details were provided.
A Missouri Department of Transportation representative presented the $237 million I-70 Kansas City project, covering the corridor from the stadiums to downtown. The project includes adding an eastbound through lane, replacing or rehabilitating 23 bridges, improving pedestrian and bicycle connectivity, and reconstructing the Jackson and Benton curves. MoDOT plans an approximately 11-month full closure from Van Brunt to the Paseo, targeted for mid-January through mid-December 2027, and described the project as being delivered by a contracted design-build team. No new contract award or council spending action was identified. The meeting also included updates on the ongoing Main Street Improvements Project and restoration of a downtown mural, without contract or budget details.
