At the October 5, 2026 meeting of the Waterbury Board of Aldermen, members considered several capital projects and purchasing matters. The board approved a $4 million transfer from the capital improvement fund for the Chase Municipal Building rehabilitation, whose proposed KBE Building Corporation construction contract is $28.2 million; the project’s total budget would be $34 million, with no contingency included. The board also approved a $250,000 roof and window repair contract for Fire Station No. 6 with MRI Roofing, a golf-management software contract with 104 Golf Inc. (amount not stated), and a $1.85 million local-funds transfer for the Waterbury Community Health Resource Center. The center project has a $5 million federal grant and a proposed total construction contract of about $6.85 million with JA Rosa. The board approved a project authorization letter for WDC to manage the project, but the construction contract did not meet the required 11-vote threshold and was deferred to a future meeting.
The board did not approve the proposed $3.5 million transfer of FY2026 general-fund surplus to capital improvements and special projects, which failed to secure the required 11 votes. It also rescinded its earlier approval of the red-light camera plan so the city can hold the state-required public hearing; a hearing was scheduled for October 19. The board approved an assistance-to-firefighters grant for fire-officer training and an engineering on-call services agreement. Public comments and discussion addressed transparency, fiscal priorities, project delays, and the appointment and attendance practices of city boards and commissions; no procurement award resulted from the proposed ordinance on boards and commissions.
