Edmond Public Schools Board meeting, October 6, 2026: The board reviewed a preliminary budget for the general, building, and child nutrition funds. The presentation projected deficits of $9.9 million, about $50,000, and $1.6 million, respectively. The superintendent attributed the general fund shortfall chiefly to declining enrollment and state aid, salary increases, and costs associated with opening a new school, and said the district would begin a “Sustaining Excellence” process to consider responses. The presentation also noted that $10 million had been shifted from the building fund to the general fund and that the district had $16.6 million above its stated minimum general-fund balance.

The board approved a $1,853,899 bond-funded award for the Clayburn Elementary School media center project, under construction manager Dal Ponicus (vendor name as transcribed), from bond fund 38-216. Members discussed a proposed $40,000 acceleration charge tied to the project schedule; the presenter said it would be paid only if the accelerated delivery was achieved, and an incomplete bid item would be rebid. The proposed purchase of a concert piano for Edmond Memorial High School was tabled so the district could follow its purchasing policy; no piano vendor or award was approved. The board also approved a no-cost graduate-program partnership with the University of Central Oklahoma.
