The Washington County Board of Commissioners’ October 6, 2026, morning work session included review of three comment letters, updates on county projects and grants, and discussion of a proposed data-center resolution. Commissioners gave a “thumbs up” to the letters concerning Head Start changes, census rules and their potential effects on service planning and formula grants, and continued service for households amid funding shifts; staff said the letters would be submitted. No contract awards, bids, or new spending approvals were identified. Staff reported that the Continuum of Care application sought more than $6 million in federal funding, and that HUD tenant-protection vouchers would preserve assistance for 57 county households after the emergency voucher program’s early end.
Staff outlined the courthouse needs assessment and space-planning work, with a progress briefing expected within 30 days, a project plan scheduled for board discussion on December 8, and possible approval on December 15. Commissioners also discussed, but did not advance, a proposed resolution addressing data-center development; it had been removed from the published board agenda and was to return for a future work-session discussion after staff and board review. A commissioner requested a future discussion of juvenile detention data and prevention investments, but no funding action was taken. Commissioner reports referenced prior support for transit-planning actions, including incorporating a community connector study into the 2028 regional transportation plan and approving its work plan.
