Scranton School District work session and board meeting, October 5, 2026. The board approved several facilities and technology expenditures. Approved items included $34,000 for Baglia Field improvements by F&T Landscaping; Whittier Elementary’s fire-alarm replacement for $57,241 plus $69 per month monitoring; a second fire-alarm replacement for $15,799 plus $69 per month monitoring; $16,500 for McNichols Plaza sidewalk repairs by Conte Paving and Construction; and the Armstrong Elementary wall-repair option for $162,000 under CoStars contract 008-26-1675. The board also approved Monticello East change orders, including sanitary work ($13,622), exit signage ($10,844.68), and basement-ceiling work ($9,163). The field and facilities-related items were approved by roll-call vote; a director raised questions about the district’s share of Baglia Field costs, and staff were asked to follow up with the city.

Other approved purchases included the Event HQ facility-use management system from Operations Hero, with annual costs of $8,928.90 and implementation costs of $3,298.40 (year-one total $12,227.30), and a one-year PowerSchool Special Programs extension for $53,944.90. The board also approved appointing a utility consultant, with cost to be determined. A LinkIt guidance-program contract for $8,500.30 was noted in the work-session update. Separately, members discussed creating an annual community grant program for outside organizations benefiting district students; no policy was adopted, and legal review and policy development will continue. The superintendent also reported on prior investments and grants, including a $350,000 grant for restorative practices.
