Brazos County Commissioners Court meeting, October 5, 2026 (the metadata lists October 6): The Court approved advertising Bid 27-052 for aggregates, coal mix, and other road materials. It also directed staff to obtain quotes from three previously responding grant-writing firms for a one-year arrangement, with a longer-term procurement approach to be developed later. The Court approved an amendment and two-year renewal of the Smart Communications Holdings, Inc. agreement to update terms for current FCC requirements. A previously approved $484,000 change order for the Road and Bridge building was discussed as the basis for a budget amendment transferring the funds into FY2027. A BTU utility permit for an aerial electrical crossing serving USD4 station sites was also approved. The Court approved the Sheriff’s Office’s participation in the cities’ 2026 JAG grant program; the wildfire-protection-plan resolution was approved, and staff said the plan would be fully funded by a Texas A&M Forest Service grant, with no county funding commitment.

The Court approved several District Attorney and court personnel compensation changes, including a $22,513 FY2027 budget increase for an assistant district attorney and increases of $26,688 and $11,267 for associate-judge budgets. A proposed juvenile-court interpreter compensation change was tabled for HR to assess a per-case payment option and revisit after six months. A presentation on county growth and the proposed SpaceX Terafab described a private-sector investment of about $119 billion and projected workforce and infrastructure pressures; it did not result in a county procurement decision. Public comment raised concerns about spending and staffing added after budget adoption, and about health, fire-safety, and inspection gaps in unincorporated areas, including a request for an interlocal agreement with municipalities.
