The Racine Unified School District Board Work Session, called to order for October 5, 2026, discussed replacement auditorium seating at Gifford K-8. The existing seats are over 50 years old; the Gifford Curtain Calls booster group has fundraised toward the project, and the district reported referendum-project savings that could help cover the remaining cost. Staff said the purchase could use a cooperative contract and that they sought additional pricing, including a quote from Carol Seating; another contacted provider declined to quote. No price was stated. The proposal is to be brought forward for consideration at the October business meeting; no award or spending vote occurred during this work session.

The board also reviewed proposed revisions to its financial-administration policy, including a $100,000 competitive-bid threshold, with an exception for temporary personnel filling replacement positions in the teaching and learning division; a requirement to place non-budgeted purchases over $100,000 on a board agenda at least five days before action; and language encouraging use of businesses located within the district. These were policy-drafting discussions, not a formal adoption vote. Other agenda topics focused on student achievement, personnel, and student learning environments; no additional procurement decisions were identified.
