The City of Sweetwater Mayor and Board of Commissioners’ monthly meeting on October 5, 2026, included review and approval of August disbursements and a major decision on the pool/recreation complex renovation. The board voted 3–1, with one commissioner recusing, to award the approximately $1.4 million project bid to Holston Construction while removing about $32,000 in demolition work for city employees to perform. Officials discussed grant-funding requirements, a $150,000 construction contingency, and potential additional city exposure; they agreed that change orders affecting costs should be shared with the board and brought for approval when needed. The city will report the revised scope to the state. The meeting also noted $4.2 million in transferred bond proceeds and the need to spend the borrowed funds by a deadline.
The August disbursement report included a $17,500 annual Flock Safety contract, $15,343 in grant-reimbursed fire equipment, $10,666 for fire-hall mattresses and bed frames, $9,800 for fire-hall HVAC work, and $7,600 for First Due fire records-management services. A resident urged the city to reconsider its Flock camera system on constitutional and privacy grounds; no action on the contract or cameras was taken. The board also recognized a $12,000 state rescue squad grant for equipment. Other agenda items included appointments, a charter-related ordinance, and approval of minutes.
