The Beaufort County Natural Resources Committee met on October 5, 2026. Staff reported that Finance and relevant departments are tracing impact-fee revenues and planned uses for a report to County Council, including checking whether funds were scheduled for eligible projects and spent within the three-year period required by state law and county ordinance. For the Pocotaligo Phase 2 hydrology study, bids have been received and are being evaluated for award; no vendor, contract amount, or award decision was provided. The Pine View Preserve project is scheduled for a final SRT meeting on October 14. Staff also described a proposed land-preservation department reorganization and recruitment for a deputy director position; the cost was not yet finalized.

The committee unanimously supported a text amendment to allow cemeteries as a permitted use in the May River Community Preservation District, with the matter to proceed to County Council. The discussion concerned a possible national cemetery on a 44-acre property, with questions about associated facilities and compatibility with the district. No procurement vote or contract award was made during the meeting.
