The Plainfield City Council meeting on September 14, 2026, centered on adoption of the city’s 2026 budget and several capital and redevelopment actions. After a budget amendment initially failed, the council reconsidered it and then adopted the budget; the temporary emergency budget resolution was rescinded. The amended budget reduced total general revenues and appropriations from $119,678,399 to $119,578,399, and the administration said the property-tax rate would decrease from 5.42 to 5.24. The amendment included an additional $69,000 for the library, with another $31,000 planned for November. The council also approved a $100,000 city capital-funds match for a $100,000 grant supporting the Al McW Memorial Trail.

Public Works presented vehicle and equipment purchases, including a 2027 International truck at a not-to-exceed amount of about $109,634 and a John Deere 320P backhoe at about $130,562; a third request was described as a smaller rear-load garbage truck, with a not-to-exceed amount of about $97,882. The Finance Director also presented a resolution accepting a $30,001 bid for a small city-owned parcel; two bids were received, with the selected bid reportedly one dollar higher than the other. Economic Development presented redevelopment studies, plan amendments, and designations involving Liberty Village, Waynewood Park, and other properties, including proposals for housing and commercial space. The council adopted redevelopment ordinances and an ordinance requiring periodic reporting on long-term tax-exemption PILOT agreements. No named vendors were identified for the equipment purchases.
