The Pickens County Board of Education’s called/work session on October 2, 2026, heard an update from its real estate agent, DT Spade, on marketing the former high school property on East Church Street. The broker reported broad exposure, several serious prospective buyers, and continuing interest hindered by a city moratorium that limits what developers can do with the site. An auction was discussed as a possible alternative if the board later chooses to accelerate a sale; the broker described typical auction terms, but the board took no action on selling the property or choosing a sale method. No contract award or new procurement approval was identified.
The board also heard Jasper Middle School’s academic and operational update, including use of the Beacon and Link platforms, which the principal said the district had already paid for. The board approved the final 10.6-mill tax rate as presented by a 5–0 vote; a board member described it as no increase in the total tax rate. Proposed policy revisions and a draft instructional calendar were presented for consideration at a later meeting, including changes related to employee leave and state cell-phone requirements; no related procurement action was reported.
