The Winchester School Committee met on October 5, 2026. The committee received an update on the district’s GIS enrollment and boundary study, which was conducted by Sanborn. The previously approved $150,000 allocation was divided into $100,000 for the schools and $50,000 for the Planning Board; approximately $55,000 of the school allocation has been spent. The study is complete, and the district can now run enrollment and boundary scenarios using the GIS data, with further consultant support available if needed. The committee expects to review the findings in a future meeting, including their relevance to resource allocation and planning for the McCall project and the district’s MSBA process. No new procurement award or spending vote was taken at this meeting.
Other business included approval of the consent agenda, an update on vocational education opportunities, and votes to advance appointments to the EFPBC and Human Rights Commission through a review process. The committee adopted a statement opposing hate and harassment and supporting LGBTQIA+ students and staff, and approved policy FF on naming or dedication of school facilities while referring related regulations back to the policy subcommittee. Budget and long-range financial planning discussions focused on developing assumptions for the upcoming process; the next budget subcommittee meeting was scheduled for October 7, and a joint meeting with the Finance Committee and Select Board for October 13.
