The Ames City Council meeting on September 22, 2026, included a procurement-related decision to proceed with a Lincoln Way corridor safety study between Grand Avenue and University Boulevard. Council approved Option 1, using savings identified in the Capital Improvements Program to fund the study; staff will return with a professional services agreement. The study is expected to assess traffic, speeds, right-of-way conditions, and potential safety measures. Separately, Council deferred to a future agenda a Discover Ames request for $5,500 toward an $11,000 ISG event-related cost; no payment or vendor award was approved. Transit representatives also reported discussion of FY2028 budget planning and the annual Transit Asset Management Plan.

Council approved a rezoning and development plan for residential projects near Ontario Road, including a plan for 71 attached units on the east parcel and further approvals still required for the west parcel. The development includes public street dedication and reconstruction of the portion of Scholl Road within the subdivision; a preliminary plat was expected on October 13, followed by a draft development agreement. Council also adopted Ordinance 4605 establishing a downtown social district, after amending its map to exclude the area south of the railroad tracks. No other contract awards or purchasing approvals were identified.
