Bakersfield Fire Department Information Session

The City of Bakersfield Fire Department held an information session on October 2, 2026, about its firefighter trainee recruitment. Department representatives described the agency’s operations and capabilities, including 14 stations, more than 50,000 annual calls, and its fire, EMS, hazardous materials, urban search and rescue, and swift-water resources. They said the academy is tentatively scheduled to begin February 22, 2027, followed by six months of probation.

The department hopes to hire approximately 16 trainees, but emphasized that the final number depends on approval. Staff explained application qualifications and deadlines, FCTC written-test scoring and oral interviews, background checks, and preparation for the academy. No contracts, purchasing decisions, budget allocations, or other procurement activity were identified.
