Augusta, Georgia’s FY2027 proposed-budget public session was held October 2, 2026, and led by County Administrator Tamika Allen. Allen reviewed the proposal before the Commission’s upcoming budget deliberations; no budget vote or procurement award occurred at this session. Most department budgets were held flat at levels reflecting the existing 5% cuts. The proposal projects $19.7 million in 2027 proceeds from the newly approved floating local option sales tax, which Allen said would reduce property taxes; combined with a recommended 2-mill increase, the proposed budget would still result in a lower millage rate than in 2026 if adopted. The proposal also includes a 3% annual escalation for environmental services and street-lighting fees. A proposed firefighter pay plan would require an additional 0.2 mill, according to the presentation.

The clearest procurement item was an operational-efficiency assessment that Allen said was currently out for bid; she recommended evaluating every department, including elected officials, but gave no estimated cost or vendor. A transit route study is also upcoming, and the Commission is expected to hold further work sessions on transit, parks and recreation, public safety, utilities, and the courts. Discussion included the downtown arena and other capital projects, as well as public survey priorities such as affordable housing, public safety, and streets and sidewalks. Residents also raised concerns about transit service, employee retention, and government spending and accountability.
