The September 8, 2026 Nash County Board of Commissioners meeting included several property, infrastructure, and grant-related decisions. The board adopted a temporary moratorium on development approvals for data centers, data-processing facilities, cryptocurrency mining, and similar uses in unincorporated Nash County, effective until new zoning standards are adopted or June 30, 2027, whichever comes first. The board approved a $1.95 million purchase of approximately 30 acres for Nash Community College, despite concerns raised about the price and appraisal values, and ratified a separate $675,000 property purchase using previously allocated county-match funds. It also approved a water-line oversizing reimbursement agreement with East Coast Timberland, capped at $6,300; amendments to water and sewer agreements with Rocky Mount; and a $126,600 well-drilling and testing contract to McCall Brothers. A proposed general-commercial rezoning at Winstead Crossroads was denied, while a subdivision road-length waiver was approved.

Other spending actions included approving a $37,535 change order for construction administration and observation at the recreation-center renovation project, bringing that contract to $125,442 within the $2.4 million project budget; selecting Network South for senior-center network wiring (the amount was not stated); and approving a Med Park renovation change order with Salisbury & Moore, with the revised contract reported at approximately $3.58 million. The board approved policies for a $273,000 single-family rehabilitation loan program, including contracting with Falour Consulting for housing support and administration; local parks grant-matching program materials; and an additional $1.22 million in opioid-settlement spending. It also approved a fireworks permit and ambulance-franchise renewals for a subsequent vote. The board received and reviewed the schools’ long-range facilities plan without committing funds. The county outlined upcoming public input and hearing dates for its Unified Development Ordinance update.
