The City of Worcester Historical Commission meeting on October 1, 2026, focused on historic-building and district review; no procurement activity, contract awards, vendor selections, or purchasing decisions were identified. The Commission unanimously approved a demolition-delay waiver for 703–711 Main Street, including recessed storefront entries, replacing stone veneer with brick, and removing gray paint from specified masonry. It approved exterior siding work at 1 Hancock Street, with vinyl-composite shingles on the side and rear elevations and cedar shingles on the front; signage at 44 West Street; and retroactive chimney replacement at 6 Massachusetts Avenue. Certificates of non-applicability were approved for insulation work at 30 Roxbury Street and chimney masonry repairs at 1 Oak Street.
The Commission continued the 244 Pleasant Street signage matter to October 15, with an extended constructive-grant deadline of October 30, to allow the applicant to explore revised window graphics. By a 4–1 vote, it determined the Greendale/Norton Eagle Monument and War Memorial locally historically significant under Criterion A for purposes of a Community Preservation Act funding application; this was a funding-related designation, not an award. The Commission also approved the Belmont AME Zion Church preservation restriction and approved prior meeting minutes. It chose not to comment on a HUD-funded project at 171 Austin Street.
