Sterling Heights’ 2026 State of the City address, delivered October 1, 2026, highlighted capital projects and economic development. The city reported approximately $26 million invested in local road improvements, the start of a reconstruction of Clinton River Road costing more than $10 million, and the opening of the $10 million Athletic Hub, a repurposed facility for pickleball and table tennis. The Lakeside City Center redevelopment received state approval for approximately $270 million in tax incentives to support a planned mixed-use project with housing, retail, and parks. Other infrastructure work includes sidewalk replacements, trails, a pedestrian bridge, park improvements, and renovations to Fire Station 5. The city also added nine firefighter positions with assistance from a federal SAFER grant and cited a SEMCOG planning grant for a trail connection.
The address reported no new contract awards, bid approvals, or procurement solicitations. The mayor emphasized public trust, financial stewardship, and partnerships with businesses and other agencies. Policy decisions with potential implications for future business opportunities include the city’s one-year moratorium on data centers, enacted in February, and an upcoming October City Council discussion of Flock camera deployment. The city also noted receiving a 2026 Achievement in Excellence in Procurement award; this was recognition, not an announced purchasing action.
