The MyGlendale Sustainability Commission’s October 1, 2026 regular meeting included an annual Public Works Integrated Waste Management update. Staff described the city’s 2021 franchise-hauler agreement, which covers four haulers serving multifamily and commercial properties; the agreement is expected to enter its next renewal process in about four years. Staff are considering adding diversion targets and addressing foodware requirements, bulky-item service limits, and other operational improvements in the next agreement. They also plan to bid in January for a facility able to process single-family organic waste without plastic bags. No contract award or spending vote was taken. A new waste-reduction and recycling outreach consultant was scheduled to go before City Council on October 6, but the transcript provided no vendor name or cost.
Staff also reviewed alternatives under consideration for the recycling center master plan; any selection would require City Council action. The Sustainability Office reported that consultant KLA had begun work on a Climate Action Plan dashboard, with a public launch targeted for Earth Day 2027; no contract amount or award vote was stated. The commission approved the August 6 minutes, with three votes in favor and the chair abstaining. Other discussion covered waste-reduction programs, battery collection, and the city’s heat-pump reach code, which remains unenforceable pending state approval. No additional procurement decisions were identified.
