The City of Boulder Arts Commission met on September 30, 2026. Staff presented the proposed 2027 Arts Budget ahead of City Council’s review of the city manager’s budget. The city had asked departments to identify 4% budget cuts; staff described efforts to preserve programs such as the Poet Laureate program and artist business cohort, as well as staffing. Commissioners discussed budget projections and funding sources, but the transcript does not indicate a vote approving the Arts Budget or identify specific budget amounts for it. A presenter from the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD) described its regional grant program and upcoming reauthorization work, including possible changes to its funding formula and statutory allocation structure. The presenter reported $87 million distributed regionally in 2025, with $8.6 million in Boulder County tax contributions and $4.6 million returning to Boulder-based organizations.

The commission approved the selection process for a proposed Becky Wearing-Smith artwork for Pearl Street Mall’s 50th anniversary and advanced the proposal to the City Manager. It also voted to approve the selection process for Handsome Little Devils’ “Bug Brigade,” a series of holiday-season performances planned for 2027–28, and recommend advancing that proposal to the City Manager. No project costs or contract values were stated. The commission also approved a Boulder Samba School grant report and discussed revisions to cultural-grant application materials; further comments on the draft documents were requested within two weeks. No contract award or procurement amount was identified.
