The City of Mobile Board of Adjustment meeting on October 1, 2026, primarily considered land-use and signage variances. The applicant for a proposed Super Food Pak commercial development at 570 Old Shell Road requested a one-month holdover; the Board agreed to hear the matter at its next meeting, scheduled for November 5. Residents and neighborhood representatives opposed the proposal, citing traffic, deliveries, noise, pedestrian safety, and compatibility with nearby homes; they also noted the Planning Commission’s recent unanimous denial of a rezoning request. No final variance decision on that proposal was made at this meeting. Case 6669 was withdrawn.

The Board approved several other variance requests, including a glazing variance at 852 Spring Hill Avenue (case 6784), a professional-office proposal at 407 Hillrest Road (case 6785), a density variance for the multifamily project at 700 West I-65 Service Road South, curb-cut requests for the St. Louis Street/North Jackson Street project (case 6789), driveway variances for historic houses on Newman Lane, and an amendment to an existing Wawa sign variance. The Comforter heating and air-conditioning application received a 30-day holdover to address site-plan and permitting requirements. For Spark Sign Company’s request at 2040 Schillinger Road, the Board approved the application without the electronic message sign. The Home2 Suites hotel request was approved except for the requested extended driveway width. No procurement, contract awards, or purchasing decisions were identified; the actions concerned land use and development approvals rather than government spending or procurement.
