The City of Laredo Planning & Zoning Commission met on October 1, 2026. The main infrastructure discussion concerned the proposed 2.85-mile VIA Road, a four-lane divided roadway with a 150-foot right-of-way connecting FM 1472 and I-35. The project is estimated to cost just over $31 million and is sponsored by the City, the Regional Mobility Authority, TxDOT, and the Killam Development group; LJA Engineering is the lead engineer, with Crane Engineering as a subconsultant. The project remains in design, and the commission considered voluntary annexations and initial M1 zoning for roadway-related tracts, including right-of-way and associated land. The presentation also described planned water and wastewater extensions. No contract award, bid approval, or purchasing action was recorded.

The commission approved a change from R3 to R1A for a single-family residential use at 617 Cortez Street, and acted on several voluntary annexation and zoning requests, including a 17.68-acre tract whose commercial zoning request was amended from B4 to B3 following staff’s recommendation. It also approved other annexation/zoning requests and preliminary and final plats for residential and commercial development, generally subject to staff comments. The meeting transcript ends during consideration of Verde Creek subdivision compliance.
