The October 1, 2026 virtual town hall hosted by Strongsville City Schools focused on Issue 9, a proposed five-year operating levy, and the district’s financial outlook. Officials reported that the failed renewal levy had reduced annual revenue by nearly $9.7 million, leading to deficit spending and a state notification that the district could face fiscal oversight if it does not address its forecast. The proposed 6.7-mill levy is projected to generate about $7.5 million in new annual revenue; the district said it has also implemented or planned roughly $5 million in spending reductions, including eliminating 15 positions this year and 34 in the next school year.
Officials said the Board had voted to transfer approximately $21.9 million from a capital-improvements fund to the general fund to support operations. Of that amount, $3.3 million was set aside for baseball and softball field turf and about $3.2 million was identified for a potential future bond payment, leaving a net $16.1 million for operations. If Issue 9 fails, the district anticipates up to $18 million in lost revenue and further reductions, including substantial staffing and student-program cuts. The meeting identified no contract awards, RFPs, vendor selections, or other procurement activity.
