Augusta, Georgia’s FY2027 proposed budget public session was held October 1, 2026, led by County Administrator Tamika Allen. Allen reviewed a proposed budget of about $1.26 billion, noting that the discretionary general fund is about $234 million and that most general-fund spending is committed to elected officials, boards, and outside agencies. The proposal maintains prior 5% departmental cuts and adds no new positions or programs. Allen recommended a two-mill increase to the county M&O rate, while projected Floating Local Option Sales Tax collections of about $19.7 million would offset an estimated 2.263 mills, resulting in a lower net millage rate if adopted. She also cited proposed firefighter pay adjustments and 3% annual escalations for environmental services and street-light fees. The Commission is still reviewing the proposal; no vote or spending motion occurred at this public session.

Procurement-related, Allen said an operational efficiency assessment covering departments—including elected officials—was currently out to bid, with no vendor identified or contract award reported. A transit route study was also anticipated, and speakers urged attention to public transit alongside affordable housing. Public comments raised concerns about roads, parks, cemetery support, employee retention, and the need for a longer-term revenue and economic-growth plan. The administrator said further work sessions would address transit, recreation and parks, public safety, utilities, and courts; no related purchasing approvals were made at this meeting.
