At a September 30, 2026, community meeting hosted by the SCS superintendent, district leaders explained the proposed school-funding referendum, listed as Public Question No. 3 for the November election. The proposal would authorize a rate of up to 22 cents per $100 of assessed value and raise up to $3.6 million for eight years, with an estimated annual cost of $191 for a home assessed at $200,000. The superintendent said the funding is intended to help sustain staffing, class sizes, programs, transportation, and school safety—not to build new facilities. No vote or motion was taken at the meeting.

The district reported saving just over $2 million across the 2025–26 and 2026–27 school years, including eliminating 13 certified positions through attrition, reducing building budgets, and cutting four bus routes. Procurement-related savings included joining a natural-gas purchasing consortium with about 50 districts and renegotiating a fuel rate; no contract awards or vendor selections were announced. The superintendent also noted that academic-wing renovations are nearing completion, funded through general-obligation bonds, while other facility work remains underway. The district cited declining enrollment and property-tax revenue, increased student needs and costs, and uncertainty about future federal funding as budget pressures.
