Tuscola County Full Board meeting, October 1, 2026. The board approved an intergovernmental agreement for the county to collect Indian Fields Township’s winter taxes for 2026–2028, subject to township approval; the county expects to retain roughly $25,000 annually in administration fees. It also approved a 2027 probate-court representation contract with attorney Dwayne E. Burgess for $6,500, a County Veteran Service Fund grant agreement for $64,334.30, and the 2027 Michigan Indigent Defense Commission grant contract and compliance plan. The indigent-defense funding discussion cited a state contribution of about $1.663 million and a local share of about $253,783; the administrator reported a reduction in state funding from the prior year and an anticipated carryover of unspent funds. The board also approved a $19,555.84 budget transfer to address a victim-services grant shortfall.

The board approved Road Commission millage voucher transfers of $1,917,620 for primary roads and $1,038,361.21 for local bridges, and a one-year lead-dispatcher pilot agreement with pay rates ranging from $25.77 to $27.87 per hour. It approved two personnel hires for county animal control and maintenance. No competitive bids or vendor awards were identified. A surveillance-camera matter was reported as on hold at the sheriff’s request while concerns are reviewed; the board did not approve a purchase.
