The Lane County Budget Committee met on September 30, 2026, and approved the May 20 budget meeting minutes. The committee then considered recommendations from the Elected Officials Compensation Board, which compared Lane County elected officials’ total compensation with five other Oregon counties. The board recommended a 2.7% cost-of-living adjustment for all elected officials and an additional market adjustment of approximately 6.2% for county commissioners, whose compensation was reported as 13.9% below comparators. The assessor, district attorney, and justice of the peace were within the board’s 5% comparison range; the sheriff was more than 5% above it. Members discussed the budget effects of regular adjustments, health insurance comparisons, and the process for setting commissioners’ compensation.
The committee voted to forward the 2.7% COLA recommendations for the assessor, district attorney, sheriff, and justice of the peace to the Board of Commissioners. It separately voted 9–1 to forward the compensation recommendations for commissioners, including the COLA and market adjustment, for consideration. The noncommissioner adjustments were recommended retroactive to the first pay period after July 1, 2026; the commissioners’ effective date depends on when the Board acts relative to the November 2026 election. No procurement activity was identified.
