The Town of New Castle Zoning Board of Appeals meeting was held September 30, 2026. The board approved a six-month extension for a project whose retaining-wall design changed from a gravity-block system to reinforced concrete. In a separate King Street application, the applicant presented a density study for four proposed units on roughly one-third of an acre (about 12.16 units per acre), compared with nearby examples of about 11.1 and 11.2 units per acre. A public commenter questioned whether the board had jurisdiction to consider the requested zoning-code interpretation; the board deferred the matter for legal counsel’s review and continued it to the next meeting. The board also requested additional comparison information on nearby development and setbacks.

The board approved a 28A variance application, with a new written resolution to follow, subject to starting within six months and completing within one year; final and foundation surveys were also specified. It approved a separate side-yard variance for a pool and pool terrace/patio, also with six months to start and one year to finish. The board approved an eight-foot side-yard variance for a proposed sunroom on an undersized lot; the related discussion also covered an existing patio and a shed built without a permit. The July 29, 2026 meeting minutes were approved. No procurement, contracting, or budget activity was identified.
