Carlsbad Unified School District Board facilities workshop, September 30, 2026: The board reviewed a draft long-range facilities master plan intended to guide campus needs over 5–10 years and support eligibility for state school-facilities funding, which requires a board-approved five-year plan. The presentation covered conceptual modernization, replacement, and expansion needs across schools, including TK and special-education spaces, kitchens, student wellness areas, athletic facilities, and a proposed centralized preschool campus for about 100 students. Staff emphasized that the draft does not set project budgets, schedules, sequencing, funding strategies, or commitments to construction; the plan is expected to return for board consideration before December. A prior estimate of about $23 million for work on the Carlsbad High School Cultural Arts Center (CAC) was mentioned, but no funding decision was made.
Trustees requested further consideration or clearer documentation of alternatives and needs, including centralized versus school-site kitchens, transportation and drop-off plans, CTE pathways, accessibility, district-office facilities, the CAC, and potential uses of the Magnolia/old CVA site. Community workshops were announced for October 13–14, with a survey also open. No procurement actions, contract awards, or project-spending approvals were identified. The board separately approved the meeting agenda 5–0 and unanimously appointed Rachel Yakabek as program specialist, effective October 1, 2026.
