The Whitman Board of Assessors met on September 29, 2026. A resident asked the board to correct a property record card that had continued to count a garage as living space despite a 2017 abatement. Staff described the corrected measurements and a roughly $23,700 valuation difference; the resident requested a retroactive correction and accurate records going forward. The board said it would pursue the request, subject to the appropriate state approval, and arrange to provide an updated card once the town’s valuation analysis and classification process are complete. Members also encouraged residents to review their property record cards for errors.
The board voted to pay invoices of $4,650 to Catalyst and $21.16 to WB Mason. It also voted on automobile excise abatements, including a 2024 exemption total of $560.54, a 2026 abatement of $2,667.33, and additional 2026 abatements totaling $727.85, and approved an agricultural application. Staff discussed timing for upcoming excise and book commitments and the need to process exemption applications within the filing window. The meeting then moved to executive session.
