The Newberg Public Schools Board of Directors meeting was held August 11, 2026. The board unanimously approved the consent agenda, which included a $350 Kiwanis Club of Newberg donation to the Migrant Summer School program and policy items, including graduation requirements. It also unanimously approved student-body account depository signatories for fiscal year 2026–27. No contracts, bids, or vendor awards were discussed. Staff reported that summer learning served 769 students toward a grant-funded target of 800, with the district planning a freshman-rising program next year; the board requested additional information on participation by school and student outcomes.
The superintendent outlined a district restructuring process in response to $5.7 million in budget cuts and uneven elementary class sizes. A committee will review district-developed options and provide feedback, with community engagement and board consideration planned; no restructuring or spending decision was made. The discussion noted that a new 550-student elementary school could cost about $58 million and raised possible future uses or leasing of school buildings if consolidation occurs. The district also plans to restore one instructional day this year. The public-comment speaker limit will return to the policy committee for review.
