The Grants Pass School District board meeting was held July 8, 2026. The board authorized the superintendent to work with Johnson Economics to review and update the district’s enrollment forecast, with spending not to exceed $15,000. The superintendent may decide whether to proceed based on whether the work is expected to provide useful additional information. The discussion cited an estimated $8,500 for a districtwide update or about $14,000 for a school-by-school review. A motion to defer the decision until August failed; the authorization motion passed. The board also postponed until August its review of the early-retirement incentive program, requesting a broader cost-benefit analysis and clarification of how the stipend applies to retirees who return to work.
The board approved its annual organizational resolution after removing item 4.2.8, which would have authorized district officials to borrow money for current expenses; members expressed concern about allowing borrowing without prior board approval. The superintendent reported that the CFO plans to retire effective January 1 and that a nationwide search would be conducted with assistance from a human-capital organization. He said the district may need to increase the position’s salary by $20,000–$25,000 to compete with other districts; no salary action was taken. The board also retained its regular meeting schedule and discussed a possible board self-assessment and ways to hear more from students and schools.
