The Hood River County School District Board meeting on September 23, 2026, included a long-range facilities planning update focused on deferred maintenance, accessibility, HVAC, security, athletics, transportation facilities, and possible school consolidations. Polling and committee discussions considered several future bond approaches, including a comprehensive package described as $109 million and a shorter-term option of about $19 million; polling showed 53% support and 37% opposition for the $109 million proposal. These were preliminary scenarios only: the board did not select a bond package or approve a facilities project, and further committee work and community input are planned. The transportation report described ongoing electric-bus deployment and fleet replacement needs, estimating that replacing about two buses annually with conventional models would cost roughly $480,000. No vehicle purchase was approved.
The board unanimously approved a Safe Routes to School grant and a renewed intergovernmental agreement with the Hood River Valley Parks and Recreation District, which clarifies facility operations, scheduling, and access; the agreement sunsets the district’s previous startup funding contribution. The board also unanimously accepted donations, including a $2,000 contribution for district support, and approved its 2026–27 board and superintendent goals. Staff reported that the summer learning grant is secured for the next three years. Solar, electric-vehicle, and facility-resilience projects remain dependent on available grants and funding; no related contracts or capital awards were approved at this meeting.
