The Walton County Tourist Development Council met on October 7, 2026 (the meeting title labels it October 6). The council approved the prior meeting minutes and financial report. A venue operator presented a proposed tourism partnership involving naming rights and an annual contribution of $1.4 million, with a 3% escalator; the proposal is not budgeted, and no funding decision was made. Members raised questions about added value, precedent for other event applicants, timing, and measurable return on investment. Staff will obtain the requested visitor, spending, and event-impact data and bring the matter back to the council. Staff also agreed to explain the large month-to-month change in Sheriff’s Office safety reimbursements.
The council voted 6–0 to recommend the tourism strategic plan to the Board of County Commissioners for final approval; detailed implementation and spending proposals are to return for further review. The plan includes future corridor and mobility planning, with possible RFPs and outsourced pilot work, but no related contract was awarded. Capital-project updates covered beach parking, tram-stop, drainage, and right-of-way improvements at Driftwood Road, Gulf Heights, and County Road 83. Members also discussed welcome signage that is proceeding to bid, with an estimated total cost of about $600,000, and criticized the process for not including the earlier recommended design and committee review. No signage bid approval or vendor selection occurred at this meeting.
