The Michigan City Historic Preservation Commission met on September 28, 2026, to review Certificates of Appropriateness (COAs). No procurement awards, contracts, vendor selections, or spending allocations were identified. The commission approved replacement windows at 423 Washington Street using Anderson 100 Series Fibrex, with the window pattern to match the original; approved a new exterior door at 701 Washington Street; approved copper scuppers and downspouts at 600 Franklin Street; and approved window decals at 910 Franklin Street. The 910 Franklin Street discussion noted that the signage, together with the awning, exceeds the sign-code limit and that a separate Board of Zoning Appeals variance is required.
The commission conditionally approved signage at 218 West 4th Street, requiring an alternate fastening method for staff approval, and conditionally approved a window at 913 Washington Street subject to staff approval of an appropriate replacement window. It also approved the staff report covering roof repair at 621 Franklin Street. An applicant withdrew the siding and porch requests discussed during another item; the previously approved soffit-and-fascia work was not reconsidered. Commissioners raised the possibility of discussing whether to add Fibrex windows to the approved replacement list at a future meeting, but no policy change was made.
