The Anchorage School Board held a work session on October 6, 2026, to review capital improvement planning and considerations for a future school bond. Staff described the state-required six-year capital improvement plan, the three-to-four-year project cycle, and how facility condition data is supplemented by maintenance reports and urgent needs. Examples included roof, boiler, structural, and safety projects at several schools; the identified emergent maintenance list totaled just under $18 million. Staff said the next bond proposal is expected to emphasize facility and personnel safety and security. The April 2026 bond was just under $80 million and failed narrowly; staff discussed voter research and a possible $60–$80 million range, but no bond amount or projects were approved at this session.

Staff noted that Ursa Major’s rebuild is supported by a federal grant covering 90% of its cost, with the district responsible for a 10% match. They also described plans to seek federal support for a potential Bartlett High School renovation estimated in the $80 million range, which would require a 10% district match if awarded. The board is expected to revisit bond and CIP proposals in October and November, with approval sought at a November meeting before consideration by the Assembly and placement on the ballot. No procurement awards, spending approvals, or votes were taken. Discussion of Abbott Loop, Campbell, and the West Park parcel concerned property disposition and was described as a separate matter involving municipal decision-making.
