The Englewood Transportation Advisory Committee meeting on March 13, 2025, focused on transportation capital projects, safety initiatives, and the upcoming capital budget. Public Works reported that street resurfacing work—about 31 blocks of repaving and 65 blocks of slurry seal—was being prepared for bid, supported in part by an additional $3 million in sales-tax funding; the city’s street-condition rating had improved from 59 in 2021 to 73. The Dartmouth Bridge widening was nearing completion, the rail trail was at preliminary design with grant funding being pursued, and the Old Hampden and South Broadway Complete Streets projects were expected to go out to bid in May or June to meet grant deadlines. Other projects nearing bid included West Dartmouth safety improvements and Union Avenue pavement reconstruction. No contract awards were made at this meeting.
Members discussed the capital improvement program and agreed to recommend keeping walking and wheeling projects in Tier 1 while reducing the pavement-maintenance allocation from $750,000 to $500,000; staff will circulate the draft recommendation for review. A $250,000 neighborhood traffic-calming request was discussed as a potential priority, while staff noted the program was still being developed and its needs would become clearer after launch. The committee also heard that a traffic-calming toolbox was expected to go out for RFP, and that the rail-trail consultant would explore potential federal, state, and local funding. The committee approved the prior meeting minutes and elected a chair. Other discussion covered Vision Zero, pedestrian crossings, school-zone safety, and traffic enforcement.
