The Milton School Building Committee met on September 28, 2026, to review four designer submissions for the school project ahead of an MSBA designer-selection panel expected the following week. Members discussed proposals from SLAM Architecture, Jonathan Levy Architecture (JLA), and Arrow Street, along with strengths and concerns including school-project experience, Massachusetts/MSBA familiarity, community engagement, staff availability, references, and engineering subcontractors. The panel is expected to narrow the field from four firms to two or three; no designer was selected and no procurement award was made. The committee also approved the September 14 meeting minutes by roll-call vote.
The committee discussed whether to add pre-K enrollment to the MSBA project, which could require a School Committee vote and MSBA board approval to return the project to an earlier program module and repeat enrollment and feasibility work. Members considered potential schedule impacts, the risk of proceeding before the proposed Labberet property acquisition is settled, and whether Article 7 funding could support further study. The discussion referenced approximately $1.5 million allocated for the current study, which could need to be spent again if work were restarted, as well as prior concept-study costs of about $450,000 for Guile Road and $30,000 for Labberet. No decision was taken on the pre-K option or Article 7; a follow-up committee meeting was planned for October 14.
