The Westwood Planning Board meeting on September 29, 2026, considered a preliminary private redevelopment concept for three parcels near High Street, Oral Road, and Draper Avenue. The concept included a mixed-use building with about 10 residential units and several storefronts, and would require zoning changes. Board members and residents raised concerns about the project’s scale, a proposed commercial access point on Oral Road, traffic and pedestrian safety, drainage, lighting, and neighborhood character. No zoning change or project approval was made; board members asked the proponent to consider alternatives and continue community discussions. The board was not inclined to sponsor a rezoning article for the site at this time.
Staff outlined draft zoning articles under development concerning the access approval overlay district, data centers, and options for multifamily housing on commercial properties in response to recent state legislation. Drafts are expected for board review October 27, with a public hearing targeted for December 15. The board also continued review of two sets of rules and regulations to October 13, voted to recommend Mike to the Recreation Committee’s advisory subgroup, and approved the August 18 and September 8 meeting minutes. An executive session was held concerning potential litigation involving 378 Washington Street. No procurement activity, contract awards, or purchasing decisions were identified.
