Boise School District’s Long Range Facilities Planning online community meeting, dated September 29, 2026, reviewed early scenarios for a 5-, 10-, and 15-year facilities roadmap. District representatives and consultant HPM described declining enrollment, approximately 9,000 surplus seats, and an estimated $480 million in facility condition and maintenance needs. Concepts included moving ninth graders to high schools, reducing or repurposing junior-high and elementary facilities, adjusting boundaries and feeder patterns, and potentially expanding or replacing facilities. The district emphasized that these are preliminary concepts, no school or project decisions have been made, and there is no funding or bond ask at this stage.
The discussion identified possible future capital investment as well as opportunities to reduce operating and leased-facility costs, but no contract awards, vendor selections, procurement approvals, spending motions, or votes occurred. The district expects to develop recommendations around January, with any implementation likely phased over two to five years; the board will review the plan and determine next steps. Community feedback and a survey will inform further planning.
