At the September 29, 2026, Marathon County Human Resources, Finance & Property Committee meeting, the committee received the administrator’s proposed 2027 annual budget and capital improvement funding plan and unanimously voted to accept them. The proposal maintains existing core services and includes $7.175 million in traditional capital projects, $7 million for roadway resurfacing, and $3.5 million toward the proposed highway shop, alongside $30 million previously designated for that project. The plan also includes proposed investments in facility repairs and upgrades, IT security and equipment, election tabulators, and a library elevator modernization. A $595,424 rolling-stock allocation would help the sheriff’s office catch up on vehicle replacements. These are proposed budget allocations, not contract awards.

The presentation also noted $150,000 for emergency shelter, $50,000 for the child-care workforce expansion program, and a proposed $150,000 minimum-revenue guarantee for Central Wisconsin Airport; the prior airport allocation remained unspent because no grant application had been received. A water-treatment project is pursuing state Clean Water Fund and State Revolving Loan Fund support, with a decision expected by year-end. The budget will proceed through publication and a public hearing before final County Board consideration on November 10; amendments must preserve a balanced budget. No vendor selections or contract awards were identified.
